Here is a description of our exhibit:
In the background of a photograph found in the online collection of the Nova Scotia Archives is a letterpress printed poster that was essentially Halifax's version of the famous "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster. "We Shall Never Rebuild Halifax Unless Everybody Works" was created after the Halifax Explosion, which had a tremendous impact on the city and its citizens - taking years to rebuild. This quote is a sentiment that still holds true today.
"The only sport in Halifax during the reconstruction" Copy of original photograph courtesy of the Maritime Command Museum, Halifax. Photograph copied from the album of Colonel Robert S. Low. Date: 1917 or 1918 Photographer: James & Son.
Participants will have the opportunity to print a copy of this inspiring commemorative keepsake poster on an antique letterpress. The commemorative poster will be a great reminder that we, as Haligonians, have to work together to ensure Halifax maximizes its full potential.
A selection of other Nocturne exhibits not to be missed are:
Grand Flight - Parade Square
Retro Robots, Rockets and Ray Guns Shoppe - Argyle Fine ArtWanted!! Thieves, Forgers and Murderers of the Victorian Age - NS Archives
Steamroller! - Alderney Landing
and many more
Download the free Nocturne app to organize your evening!
Take as much in as you can. A great way to get around Halifax during Nocturne will be by bike. Check out the list of tips courtesy of I Heart Bikes.
